The Challenge
Great Bear, one of the UK’s leading third-party logistics providers, has continued to grow steadily in recent years. With over 4.5 million sq ft of warehousing space under management and a large modern fleet, they support some of the biggest international and blue-chip brands with dedicated and shared-user warehousing and distribution services.
As part of their ongoing expansion, Great Bear opened a new site in Sheffield. The depot added to a list of recent investments across the country, including large-scale facilities in Northampton, Chorley, and Bromborough. To support the safe and efficient operation of this new space, they needed a warehouse labelling and safety solutions partner who could deliver to a high standard, work within tight timescales, and provide reliable results, all while keeping costs under control.
Having worked successfully with ELAN Europe in the past, Great Bear knew who to call.
The Solution
From the outset, ELAN worked closely with the team at Great Bear to understand the site requirements and provide a competitive quote for the full supply and installation package. The work was carried out over a phased 8–12 week period and involved several return visits to ensure every element was delivered properly.
The scope at the Sheffield site included:
- Installation of Armco-style hand barriers and other safety systems
- Internal line-marking for pedestrian and vehicle traffic
- Warehouse signage
- Barcode labels
Because the site included both unoccupied and live operational areas, ELAN took a carefully planned approach to minimise disruption and keep everything running safely and smoothly. The Sheffield depot was a significant project to deliver, not only due to its scale but because of the high standards expected by Great Bear.
The Result
The Sheffield installation was completed on time, on budget, and to spec, reinforcing Great Bear’s trust in ELAN as a trusted delivery partner..
Chris Bell, Facilities Manager at Great Bear, commented:
“Works undertaken by ELAN on our projects have been completed safely and in line with the project programmes in both unoccupied and live working environments.”
The project not only ensured the new site was ready for safe and efficient operation, but also strengthened the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
ELAN’s UK Sales Manager said:
“Working with the Great Bear team has been great. There’s never been any ambiguity, and a professional crew was provided to help out, which ensured everything went to plan.”
